'I urge all men to get themselves checked out'
The thing that left out, like you said, is that statistic in that black men are twice as likely to have this diagnosis than white men. Did you know about that before your own diagnosis? No, I did not. So when I heard that one in four statistic, that really scared me, You know, so I thought, something’s got to be done about this and it should be more awareness in the public. And So what I’m suggesting is that whoever assumes power. In the next election they actively going to seek out screening for black men just the way they do for women when it comes to breast cancer or smear, you know women have smears as well. So I believe that it would be very beneficial to what black men and and all men to have screening before the age of 45. Is it as straightforward as that though Alex, because you hear with things like tests? For prostate cancer, they can throw up false positives quite a lot. It’s not that it’s not quite light for light when it comes to screening with other female specific cancers for example. Yes, there may be some truth in that, but but I believe it’s better to be screened and tested and not do anything at all, you know, because most men, we kind of get our egos in the way. But oh, I’m not going to do that. I don’t need to visit the doctor. But you can find yourself in the same situation as myself where it was accidental because I entered the hospital with another complaint and that was my asthma condition. And it’s only because my wife said to the doctor that I had lost weight recently that I had always test and they found a cancer in my bone marrow. So I was totally unaware and totally, totally taken aback by that. So I urge all men listening to this, especially black men, to get themselves checked out.
