I made no money on Bridesmaids, says Rebel Wilson
Rebel Wilson “made no money” on ‘Bridesmaids’.
The 44-year-old actress starred alongside the likes of Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper and Melissa McCarthy in the 2011 comedy film – but Rebel has now revealed that she made just $3,500 from the movie.
Rebel said on the ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast: “It was my first job in America.
“I mean, it was very lucky to get it … But to be paid that little. Basically, that $3,500 I then had to pay to the union to join the union. So I basically made no money.
“I lost money, because I had to pay to go to the premiere, like to buy my dress and everything. So, I lost money doing ‘Bridesmaids’.”
Rebel was living on a meagre budget before she found fame and success in Hollywood.
The actress – who was born in Sydney, Australia – shared: “That was a really skint year where I was living on $60 a week in L.A. once I’d paid my rent and my car hire.
“I wasn’t partying or living this [movie star] life. It was basically having that focus, trying to write for myself, going to auditions.”
Rebel previously claimed that actresses in Hollywood are required to be “two or three times as good as the guys”.
The movie star told ELLE magazine: “How I see it is, I do two types of job: dream jobs like female-driven comedies and the other job which is basically the boys’ club.
“You aren’t being paid much and you start at a disadvantage with the script. Usually, you don’t have any cool jokes and you’re there to support the male actor.
“Those male roles are 90 percent written and formed by the time the filming starts but the female roles are only 20 percent there.”
