I made a cappuccino, hot choc and iced coffee using ProCook's new milk frother - it beats Nespresso

As a self-proclaimed coffee ‘fiend’ any hot drink-related gadget is tempting when stocking up on my kitchen accessories. It all started with a splurge on a Nespresso Vertuo straight out of uni and then I was spoilt by a Breville Barista Max bean-to-cup machine.

Since then I’ve become addicted to worktop gadgets in an attempt to make any style of drink I would order from a cafe at home. Simple £5 Amazon milk whizzes and Nespresso’s much swankier (all be it not necessarily better) plug-in milk frother in between.

It may sound over the top but in just a few years I’ve saved so many pennies making coffees at home compared to the takeaway one I’d buy on the regular. When ProCook reached out to offer their newest Milk Frother to review, I had to see how it compared to the gadgets I already have lined up on my worktop – and it’s perfect for hot chocolates.

Hot chocolate isn’t something I drink regularly, mainly for the faff, I can’t lie and say I haven’t been tempted by the rival Hotel Chocolat Velvitiser, in the past – although ProCook’s newest device will give you more than just hot chocolate. I was disappointed with my Nespresso milk frother because you couldn’t put any chocolate powder or chips in the device, not to mention its much smaller size and more expensive price tag.

It can help create multiple drinks

That’s where the new £69 Pro Cook device differs, doubling up as a hot frothy milk, cold foam, warm milk, and hot chocolate maker. The four programmes make it super simple to please everyone’s drinks order, you can switch between an ice cold drink to a hot frothy latte in minutes, and its 400ml max line is rather generous compared to rival brands.

I have to say I am spoilt when it comes to milk frothers (I certainly don’t need anymore at home) but that does have a huge pro when it comes to looking at the pros and cons of each varying device. From making three separate drinks in Pro Cook’s new machine I have to say its bigger size and four ‘modes’ make it a winner….in my eyes.

Starting with its three different ‘milk frothing’ settings there’s hot milk (with no foam), cold foam milk, and hot frothy milk to use depending on the style of drink you may want. The only one I didn’t test out was the hot milk (as I figured this would be pretty standard in a hot coffee).

Instead, I started by pressing the button once for the hot frothy milk setting, making a cappuccino at home that literally towered with froth. The device is so easy to use that there’s not much else to say when it comes to ‘how to use’, just measure in the right amount of milk, press your desired milk button, and wait for the ‘beep’ to tell you its ready – the hot frothy milk took about a minute.

Iced Coffee

Next up I made one of my working-from-home go-to’s an iced latte. This is nothing fancy as I need to be quick but I usually fill a glass with ice and cold milk (sometimes frothed in my rival Nespresso Aeroccino), make an espresso shot-sized mug of instant hot coffee, and pour over the milk – et voila.

Using the Pro Cook cold frothy milk setting I did my usual instant coffee espresso shot and filled a glass with ice, this time around adding 200ml of milk (it was far too much) into the stainless steel jug, and pressing the button four times (also helped by the snowflake symbol) – this setting was by far the most impressive, thick foam and much colder than expected.

Lastly was a hot chocolate treat, and instead of warming up milk separately or making up a mix of boiling hot water (to avoid annoying choc powder chunks) you can throw your chosen hot chocolate powder straight into the Pro Cook device with the milk. Press the button three times – until you reach the chocolate mug symbol – and it makes a silky, rich, and slightly frothy decadent drink in minutes.

The Milk Frother and Hot Chocolate maker duo is much more affordable considering its multiple features and bigger removable stainless steel cup. This makes cleaner super easy and you can make drinks for multiple people at once.

Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother

The only other milk frother appliance I have to compare it to is the Nespresso Aeroccino, which only holds a maximum of 240ml for hot milk or 120ml for any frothy milk. Another small bug-bear of mine is the rival £89 device does not have a detachable jug for easier cleaning.
