I couldn’t question Najib’s SRC decisions, ex-director tells court
Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi (left) thought former prime minister Najib Razak’s appointment as ‘advisor emeritus’ to SRC International was unusual.
KUALA LUMPUR: A former SRC International director told the High Court he was not in a position to question former prime minister Najib Razak’s “decisions” in respect of the company’s business direction.
Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi said Najib’s decisions were made in the national interest.
“The shareholder (Najib) issued a very descriptive minute (shareholder’s resolution) on what SRC International needed to do to execute his wishes.
“It did not cross my mind to block or slow down (the execution of his decisions),” he told the court.
SRC International is suing Najib and former CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil for wrongfully receiving company property, and dishonestly and wrongfully conspiring to convert company property to their own use.
The suit originally included Shahrol and former directors Ismee Ismail, Azhar Osman Khairuddin, Suboh Yassin and Che Abdullah @ Rashidi Che Omar as co-defendants.
SRC International later dropped the case against them. However, they were added as third parties by Najib.
Shahrol also claimed he thought Najib’s appointment as “adviser emeritus” to SRC International was unusual.
“When I asked Nik (Faisal) about it, he said this was what the prime minister (Najib) wanted,” he added.
The hearing continues before Justice Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin on May 8.
Abdullah is scheduled to testify.
