'I Ask Coaches to Kick me Out if I...': Suryakumar Yadav Reveals How he Prepares for Challenging Match Situations

Suryakumar Yadav smashed a 51-ball hundred to guide Mumbai Indians to their third win in IPL 2024

Suryakumar Yadav has allayed fears over his form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with a 51-ball hundred which denied the Sunrisers Hyderabad a win on Monday at Wankhede. Suryakumar smashed an unbeaten 102, his second IPL hundred, to take Mumbai Indians to an emphatic win in 17.2 overs.

MI sauntered to the target after SRH had recovered to post 173 for eight.

MI were reeling at 31 for three when Suryakumar and Tilak Varma did a superb recovery job with a 143-run unbeaten stand to script a comprehensive victory.

Suryakumar’s entertaining knock included 12 fours and half a dozen sixes.

But before entering the field and producing a batter masterclass, Suryakumar’s heart was beating too fast which he revealed while speaking with JioCinema experts Parthiv Patel and Pragyan Ojha after the game.

“I won’t be lying but my heart was beating fast. I never felt that I would be batting so early on in the innings. Everything’s uncertain in this game so I was prepared. I know a couple of deliveries will seam away. I had no clue initially but since I survived, I thought to settle down in the first three overs and then if I get the ball in my zone, I will play my shots,” Suryakumar said.

The dynamic batter further revealed how he prepares himself to bat under testing conditions. He said he asks his coach to throw him out of the nets if he gets out during match simulations.

“I always have this in my mind how will I bat when the scoreboard reads 0 for 2. So, I prepare myself in that way. So that’s what I do in the nets and apply the same in the game as well. Because I know if I finish my nets happily, then I will definitely do well in the game. If not in a couple of games but will definitely play well in the following matches,” he said.

“I prepare according to the situation like what if the team loses a few early wickets? Sometimes I put so much pressure on myself that I ask my coaches to ‘kick me out if I’m gone. When I go in the game, I just need to express myself because I have faced such situations already in the nets. If it clicks, then fair enough and if not, then be it in the next game,” Suryakumar added.
