Wimbledon is back as the grass season hits its peak and the 2022 edition of the Tennis tournament will welcome full-capacity crowds for the first time since 2019.
Last year saw attendances at 50 per cent to comply with Government restrictions surrounding COVID. However, the anticipation is building as the illustrious tournament returns.
Rafael Nadal enters the tournament on the back of winning another French Open as he overcame Casper Rudd in straight sets. It has been a difficult 2022 for reigning Wimbledon Men’s winner Novak Djokovic who has yet to win a major this calendar year.
Meanwhile, reigning Women’s champion Ashleigh Barty will not be defending her crown after hanging up her racket earlier this year, aged just 26. World number one Iga Świątek will be looking to extend her 35-match winning streak throughout the competition and reign victorious on July 9.
How to watch Wimbledon for free
BBC will have coverage right the way throughout the tournament, starting Monday 27 June before its conclusion on Sunday 10 July. It will be broadcast live from 11am every day with the opening day starting at 10:30am, with coverage across the broadcaster’s channels and platforms including BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
Multi-court coverage is available on BBC iPlayer, via the red button, the BBC Sport app and the BBC Sport website. To find BBC One and Two on your Sky TV and Virgin Media box, it is channels 101 and 102 respectively.
The daily “Today at Wimbledon” highlights show will be on BBC Two and across their digital platforms at 8.30pm. The coverage will be headed by Sue Barker, she will be joined by a host of former Wimbledon champions including John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and Pat Cash. As well as former British stars Annabel Croft, Johanna Konta and Tim Henman.
