PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to believed-to-be available quarterback this offseason, and with recent news coming from the Washington Commanders, there may be another name to begin watching.
According to FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacciano, the Washington Commanders are open to trading Sam Howell this offseason, and there are multiple teams could be interested in acquiring his talents. The then-second year quarterback threw for 3,946 yards and 21 touchdowns last season, while completing 63.4% of his passes, but also threw a league-leading 21 interceptions.
“Multiple NFL sources believe several teams would be interested in trading for the 23-year-old,” Vacchiano writes. “They could potentially get a third-round pick for him — maybe more — if they decide they’re willing to deal him sometime around the draft.”
If the Steelers are looking to give up early draft picks for a quarterback, it may not be the fifth-round pick of the draft class Kenny Pickett is from – and for almost the same compensation, reports claim they could have a shot at Chicago Bears’ passer Justin Fields.
If that price tag dips significantly, and the Steelers find themselves looking for competition alongside Pickett, maybe they’d then consider it. For now, it feels like a pipedream that Pittsburgh will call Washington and offer anything close to a third-round pick for Howell.
