Government could extend federal energy rebate
Sky News Australia can reveal that an energy bill relief rebate worth $500 a year for low-income households looks likely to be extended in next week’s budget but potentially without state help.
Government could extend federal energy rebate
Low-income households will receive $500 in energy rebates while small businesses will receive $650.
The rebate was due to run out on June 30.
The funding was originally split 50/50 between state and federal governments.
Sky News Australia understands since the discussion with state treasurers, Victoria indicated it won’t match the funds.
NSW – while under budget strain – may also not match the funds, and Queensland has announced its own energy rebate.
