Ireland weather: Major change on the cards ahead of weekend

ireland weather: major change on the cards ahead of weekend

Some welcome weather news ahead of the weekend

Touch wood – the stormy conditions look to be in the rearview mirror as a much more settled weekend is in store for Ireland, according to Met Eireann.

Last weekend was dominated by weather warnings which escalated to Status Red in some areas as the island was battered by strong winds and heavy rain, resulting in two storms being named over the span of a few days.

Thankfully, this weekend is not forecast to be as drastic as temperatures are expected to initially cool on Friday morning, before giving way to mostly dry weather throughout the weekend.

Friday morning will feel much cooler for many but in most welcome news, the day will remain dry for most areas and some sunny spells are even forecast.

This comes after the arrival and departure of both Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn, both of which wreaked havoc in several areas of the country.

“Mostly dry today with bright or sunny spells and a few showers, mainly across the west and northwest,” a Met Eireann spokesperson said. “Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a moderate to fresh and gusty west to southwest wind, strong at times near Atlantic coasts.

“Dry for most tonight with a mix of cloud and clear spells. A few showers will occur, still mainly in the west and northwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees in a moderate to fresh south to southwest wind, continuing strong in the west and northwest.

“Plenty of dry weather at first tomorrow with some bright or sunny spells. However, cloud will build from the west with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending eastwards, driest in the south and east. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly winds.”
