For more on the global response to Iran’s attack on Israel, let’s bring in retired Major General Tim McGuire. He served our country in the US Army for 34 years. General McGuire, what are the considerations that go into how Israel should respond to this unprecedented attack by Iran? Yeah, one. John, I do want to highlight the great success that the IDF, our servicemen and women and those of our allies had. That 99% success rate was pretty impressive. And that does give Israel some maneuver space right now in which we can bring all elements of power to bear on right now. I know there will be an Israeli response, but that can be one now based on the great success that they had on defeating this attack and protecting their citizens that they can pick at the time and place of their choosing. So I think they’re going to continue to ensure their forces are on high alert, as are U.S. forces throughout the region and those of our allies. I do want to point out this does show the power of allies because it wasn’t just the Israelis and the US, but the, as has been reported, the British, the French and others responded. So it does overscore the importance on that. But right now, as they’re working together, it’s it. They’re going to be calculating how best to respond in that do not further regionalize the conflict but be able to bring back the torrents. But to me, it does highlight just the importance of investing in your armed forces. I applaud the Israelis for what they have done with the Iron Dome, with David Sling, with the Arrow Two and Three, and it shows to us and all others the need to maintain peace through strength. So I do urge the passing is supplemental so we can make sure we are well armed to not only aid our stalwart ally Israel, but help the Ukrainians stop the Russian invasion and then also ensure we are prepared to deter China and any other threats that are out there. President Biden has said the US is not going to get involved in any kind of response to this Iranian attack on Israel. Given the way Iran has, you know, acted toward the US, that their EF PS have killed scores of our soldiers in places like Iraq. Is it a wise idea for the president to say, you know, we’re going to be hands off here? Well, the one is, is I without a doubt this attack shows the destabilizing, destructive influence Iran has throughout the region and the world. But it also the success of the Israeli Defense Forces does show the great capabilities they have. And by, you know, the president looking at the totality of the global situation right now, I, you know we we provided great support to Israel by being able to knockout over 99% of the 300 plus missiles and drones that attacked Israel. And so right now I think that’s how do you continue to defend Israel but then also prevent further escalation. So right now a little calm and restraint because it’s the long game and and without a doubt we need to take on and deter the axis of Iran, Russia and China. But right now doing that in the time and place of our choosing and looking with the long game in in in time, I think in our national interest and I do that’s where the supplemental getting that passed. So we can stand by our allies Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan as they continue to defend the frontiers of freedom. And then it also helps us strengthen our supply chain, make sure we’re prepared to take on threats. And also just to point those who are concerned about where the money’s going. The majority of those funds are staying in this in the US to U.S. companies, US workers making sure we are strengthening our industrial base. So once again, we’re not prepared to not only deter and defeat Iran, Russia, China, any threats that are out there. So it’s really to me as a someone who dedicated his life to defending this great country of ours, someone who still has many friends and family members in uniform. I want to make sure that we are making the prudent investments to make sure we remain the strongest nation on earth and we can maintain peace and strength because the the money invested in missile defense was on magnificent display last night. Retired U.S. Army Major General Tim McGuire. General McGuire, thank you.
