Met Éireann says chance of sleet and snow as cold week expected

It will be a dry and sunny start to the week with patches of light rain or drizzle in the north of the country throughout the day.

Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees are expected today, dropping to lows of 7 to 9 degrees overnight.

Met Éireann forecasts more widespread rain tomorrow morning that will quickly clear from the northwest.

Temperatures will again sit between 9 to 12 degrees before lowering to 4 to 6 degrees at night.

It will be dry at first on Tuesday night before rain returns from the southwest, turning heavy in places as it extends to all areas throughout the night.

Further rain is expected on Wednesday, quickly clearing eastwards to showers that may occasionally fall as sleet or snow overnight.

Lowest temperatures of 1 to 2 degrees are expected on Wednesday night.

Met Éireann forecasts sunshine and showers with longer spells of rain on Thursday, most persistent over the western half of the country where it could turn into sleet or snow at times.

Thursday night will be cold and frost in places before a another cold and shower day on Friday, with showers again turning to sleet and snow and times.

The outlook for next week suggests the unsettled conditions will continue with the chance of frost at night ongoing.
