Geno 'Dipped'; Seahawks Evaluation: QB Starter in 2024?

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith couldn’t quite live up to his Pro Bowl season from a year ago as his team narrowly missed the playoffs.

Smith had fewer wins, passing yards, and touchdowns. He also had a lower completion percentage, although he did have a joint career-high five game-winning drives.

Despite having a down year statistically and missing the playoffs, Seahawks general manager John Schneider still offers some positives in his evaluation of the QB.

“I think Geno had a good season,” Schneider said. “It was a little bit opposite of last year. He started out really strong last year and things dipped a little bit in the second half. This year, he started out not quite as strong as last year and then finished in a real strong manner.”

While Schneider seems happy with Smith’s output this season, will that be enough to suggest that he will return in 2024?

Possibly, but Smith is now no longer due any more guaranteed money, so if the Seahawks wanted to move on from Geno, they could. There is contractual escapability here; We might find out if the team’s intentions of keeping him on February 16, at which point his salary for the 2024 season becomes locked in, per The Seattle Times.

Given the Seahawks’ draft position (No. 16), could the franchise pick a QB? Or trade up to snatch a quarterback?

The Seahawks were good value for large portions of the season as Smith had them in the playoff calculations (6-3 after nine weeks), but that four-game losing streak is what ultimately led the team to have pressure to win down the stretch and they couldn’t.

Has Smith done enough to warrant being the starter going forward? We will find out soon enough.
