Funeral details for pregnant mum killed in Galway crash announced as heartbreaking tributes paid

The funeral details have been announced for a mother of two who tragically died after a road collision in Galway.

39-year-old Irene Lynch passed away at University Hospital Galway surrounded by her family on Monday, March 25 after fighting for her life for 10 days following a horror road crash in a village on the outskirts of Galway.

Originally from Athlone, Irene, who was 18 weeks pregnant at the time of the crash, was a passenger in the car that collided with a wall before entering the water at Lochan Mor in Menlo village at around 7am on Friday, March 15.

Tributes are being paid far and wide for Irene, with her sister Marcella telling Galway Beo she was “well-loved by everyone who knew her and very bubbly”.

“We’re a big family and a very close family,” Marcella said. “Irene was the youngest of five girls, followed by three boys.

“We’re all sticking together strong as a family and as best as we can. We were all there for the whole 10 days by her bedside praying. She was always my mother’s pet. Mammy had an awful soft spot for because she was the youngest of the girls”.
