A name that LSU fans may be familiar with in Maurice Hampton has hit the transfer portal. 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz broke the news with a report via X.
Hampton played at LSU for 2 seasons from 2019-2020. He was a former 4-star cornerback commit in the 2019 class out of Memphis, Tennessee. Hampton played on the 2019 LSU team that featured eventual NFL stars like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Joe Burrow.
Hampton switched to safety shortly after landing in Baton Rouge. He appeared in 21 games for the Tigers over two seasons and accounted for 37 total tackles and one pass breakup.
The LSU defensive back left the team to focus on baseball at the same school. He was actually drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2019 but decided to stick with football instead.
He transferred to Memphis last season, making his return to football. Unfortunately, things didn’t get off to a hot start for him. He suffered an injury before the season started and redshirted.
Hampton could receive a lot of interest from various schools in the Power 4. Memphis had a successful season in 2023, winning 10 games after beating Iowa State in the Liberty Bowl.
