Bronco Sport and Maverick models are affected by the recall
Over 456,000 Ford vehicles have been recalled over a potential battery issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the news this week and said Bronco Sport and Maverick models potentially affected.
In the impacted vehicles, an undetected low battery charge can result in a loss of electrical accessories such as hazard lights, the NHTSA said. It could also cause a loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall affects certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles. A total of 456,565 are being recalled.
The NHTSA said that Ford will notify owners of the impacted vehicles by mail starting on May 13.
These owners can bring their cars to a dealer to have the issue fixed free of charge, the NHTSA said. The dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module.
Owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 with any questions regarding the recall.
The latest recall comes less than a week after almost 43,000 Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs were recalled due to potential gas leaks that could cause engine fires.
A total of 42,652 vehicles were affected in that recall, including some Bronco Sport models built in 2022. The NHTSA has launched a probe regarding Ford’s planned remedy for the leaks.
