Five mile diversion in place as Cambridgeshire A14 Bar Hill bridge closed after embankment 'movement'

Concerns have been raised about the bridge at the Bar Hill interchange on the A14

A five-mile diversion will be in place while works are carried out on a Cambridgeshire road. The B1050 Hattons Road bridge over the A14 will be closed overnight from Friday (February 9) to Monday (February 12) while temporary surface patches are installed.

The closures follow concerns about ‘movement’ of the bridge embankment. A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: “B1050 Hattons Road Bar Hill will be closed both ways to all motor vehicles today until 12th February between the hours of 9pm and 5am daily for works addressing settlement issues.”

Previous repairs were made to the road surface after concerns were raised over settlement of the embankment. The county council and National Highways will install monitoring equipment to find out what is happening to the embankment fill materials.

The closure will be in place between 9pm and 5am. Emergency access will be maintained.

The five-mile diversion is estimated to take motorists about five minutes. It will see motorists directed via Huntingdon Road, Bucking Way Road Roundabout, the Swavesey Link Road, and A14.
