There are positive signs that the sunshine and warm temperatures of the past week will return this weekend
The current spell of fine weather is set to come to an end tomorrow – but forecasters are increasingly confident that the sunshine will make a reappearance in many parts of the country this weekend.
Sunny spells will continue throughout today in most areas before becoming cloudy overnight with rain spreading across the country from the west throughout tomorrow.
The transformation will see temperatures drop to freezing on Friday night, but there are positive signs that the sunshine and warm temperatures that the country has enjoyed in the past week will return this weekend.
And there’s more good news, with weather models currently showing a strong possibility of an area of high pressure settling over the country for the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Here’s the latest forecast for the coming days from Met Éireann:
Wednesday
Another dry day for most with a mix of sunshine and cloud. While a few light showers may develop, they will be the exception. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, mildest in the South, all in a light to moderate northerly breeze.
Tonight will be generally dry under broken cloud with just a few showers across the North and Northwest. Chilly with lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, coldest where clear breaks persist. A few mist patches too with light variable breezes.
Thursday
Scattered showers in the North and Northwest early on Thursday with some sunny spells elsewhere. Becoming cloudier everywhere through the day with some showery outbreaks of rain developing. Highest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees in light to moderate northerly or variable breezes, coolest across northern and eastern fringes.
Cool and clear in northern parts overnight with showery outbreaks of rain elsewhere. Some mist and fog patches too. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees in light to moderate variable winds.
Friday
Some bright or sunny spells but overall cloudy with well scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees in a light to moderate northeasterly breeze.
Any showers will soon die away with long clear spells following on Friday night. Some frost will set in. Cold with lowest temperatures of -1 to 3 degrees in light northerly breezes.
Saturday and Sunday
Some uncertainty for the weekend. However, current indications suggest both days with bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells with scattered April showers with the chance of more general falls of rain on Sunday. Fairly cool with highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Northerly winds will likely veer westerly.
