One of the most impressive things to see during a baseball game is a player throwing a blur of a pitch. But what’s the fastest baseball pitch ever thrown? Arolda Chapman officially holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest baseball pitch with a fastball clocking in at 105.8 mph. Former Cincinnati Reds pitchers set the record on September 24th, 2010. The high velocity pitch against the San Diego Padres Mother MLB legends are said to have thrown faster pitches than Chapman’s, like Nolan Ryan’s 108.1 mile per hour fastball. In 1974 or Bob Feller’s 107.6 mile per hour pitch in 1946, but these are still unofficial. Less reliable technology. It can be difficult to confirm the speed of a historic pitch. And in case you were wondering, the fastest recorded pitch in college baseball happened much more recently. The MLB says the record belongs to Ben Joyce. On May 1st, 2022, Joyce threw a 105.5 mile per hour ball for the Tennessee Volunteers in a game against Auburn. Now the pitch was just .3 mph below Chapman’s record. So Joyce’s pitch would have been the second fastest MLB pitch of all time if he’d thrown it in a Major League game.
