EXCLUSIVE: IDW Reveals First Look at New Godzilla Series

CBR can exclusively reveal artist Juni Ba’s upcoming covers for Godzilla: Skate or Die, a new miniseries from IDW. The story will see the titanic monsters Varan and Godzilla wreaking havoc on a skate park in central Australia.

Godzilla: Skate or Die is written, drawn and colored by award-winning comic artist Louie Joyce. Each of the five issues in the miniseries will arrive with a variant cover drawn by Juni Ba. CBR has an exclusive first look at the upcoming covers of issues #3 – #5, which feature Ba’s distinct style, perfectly blending Godzilla’s monstrous size with skater culture. Cover art features Godzilla’s iconic roar for one issue, while another shows one of the skaters diving into Godzilla’s open mouth. Godzilla: Skate or Die #1 goes on sale June 12 from IDW.

The miniseries was first announced back in February on Godzilla’s official website, with author Joyce expressing his excitement for the upcoming series in its press release: “I am so excited to share ‘Godzilla: Skate or Die’ with the world! A story set right here in Aus, inspired by all the amazing DIY spots I’ve had the privilege of skating, as well as the incredible freedom and power that comes with having wheels under your feet! All against the backdrop of an epic Kaiju showdown. It’s gonna get gnarly!”

Skaters Will Unite To Stop Varan and Godzilla

IDW’s solicitation for the first issue teases what will happen to the group of Australian skaters when they find Godzilla and the monstrous Varan at their park. “Four years ago, four best friends and die-hard skaters found the perfect location for a DIY skatepark. After months of hard work, they created the world’s sickest spot that they could enjoy for the rest of their lives…That is, until the ferocious Varan appeared in the middle of central Australia and started making a beeline for their beloved park.”

A unique Airbnb in New Castle, New York will offer X-Men fans of all ages an immersive experience at the X-Mansion hosted by Jubilee.

IDW goes on to tease that the skaters will play a part in bringing the mayhem under control. “Why is Varan on a rampage? Why did Godzilla just appear off the coast? What does their beloved skate spot have to do with this? And most importantly…what are these punks willing to do to save it?”
