New south Columbus complex offers affordable housing, new start
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A new apartment complex is now open on Columbus’ south side that will help expand affordable housing and create opportunities for more early childhood learning, according to city leaders.
Lockbourne Green is a new apartment complex built for residents who earn 40 to 80 percent of the area’s median income. It features a daycare center and offers early development opportunities.
Woda Cooper Companies, one of the groups involved with the project, said the site offers 60 new affordable homes, meaning 60 fresh starts for families.
“I think it can really change, begin to change the neighborhood, bring investments, bring businesses that maybe were thinking about locating here,” Jeffrey Woda, founder of Woda Cooper Companies, said. “Businesses that are here, helping their business, maybe, expand.”
City leaders said there is still much work to be done as 54,000 households in Franklin County spend about half of their income on housing.
