'A forgotten team': South Omaha Museum goes down memory lane to the time city had NBA team

The South Omaha Museum opened a new exhibit exploring the years Omaha had its own NBA team.

The Once We Were Kings exhibit will be open until Feb. 24.

It’s filled with memorabilia of the Kansas City Omaha Kings.

They played in Nebraska from 1972 until 1975.

“It’s almost like a forgotten team. I don’t think anybody’s ever done an exhibit on it. They’ve done news stories on it, but not on exhibit. So, over the years, I’ve collected all this. Omaha, Kansas City Kings that nobody else really wanted. But I collected it. And so, I put it into a collection. And I hope one day to be able to exhibit it to the public in Omaha,” said museum curator Gary Kastrick.

The museum is located in the Center Mall near 42nd and Center streets.
