Cusack Park in Ennis will host a Munster football final for the first time since 1919 after Clare ‘won’ the coin toss for venue.
The counties agreed to toss after it emerged the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, the normal venue when these counties meet in a Munster SFC final, was out of action because the Great Limerick run was being staged that day.
Because of TV scheduling, the first provincial final of the year could not be taken out of its Sunday afternoon slot.
Kerry and Clare don’t have a home and away arrangement but Clare did look for one to be put in place last year, ahead of their Munster final meeting.
Cusack Park accommodated 20,055, a ‘full house’ for last Sunday’s Munster SHC opener between Clare and Limerick. But even with home advantage going Clare’s way now, the expected attendance may fall short of that. There were 12,499 in Limerick last year.
Meanwhile, Kerry star David Clifford said yesterday that there will always be crtitics of tactics in Gaeic football but he believes there’s a very “interesting” summer ahead.
