Juan Pedro Lopez has won the third stage of the Tour of the Alps on Wednesday afternoon. The Spaniard of Lidl-Trek broke away from his breakaway companion in the final phase and also took control of the overall classification. Understandably, Lopez was happy with his victory, but he also wanted to comment on the weather conditions. From his words, it was clear that he did not consider it safe racing weather: “This was a shit day for everyone.”
Lopez discussed his first professional win in the post-race flash interview. “This is a great day, my first pro win. But to be honest, it really was a shit day for everyone. That rain, and only four degrees. It was so cold. At one point, I couldn’t feel my hands and I didn’t feel good at all at the beginning.”
The priority was not to catch a cold, “but that didn’t work out,” said Lopez
“It was one of my toughest days ever on a bike,” Lopez continued his statement. “There was actually only one tactic today: to not catch a cold, haha. But that didn’t work out. Then I decided to go all out and aim for the win. I didn’t think it would be possible, but in the end, my legs held up well,” said Lopez, fighting back tears of joy.
