LPGA: Nelly Korda lets it “flow” on ESPN, eyes history at Chevron Championship

World No. 1 Nelly Korda is at the top of her game and is arguably the best golfer in the world, male or female.

She has won four straight LPGA Tour events this year. Most recently, Korda won The T-Moblie Match Play event at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.

The 25-year-old is eying win No. 5 this week in Houston at The Chevron Championship, the first major of the season.

Korda joined Shae Peppler Cornette, an ESPN analyst, to discuss her historic run.

“Sometimes it clicks. When you’re playing this good of golf, it just flows,” Korda said. “You’re out here, living in your own little bubble, having so much fun competing, playing in different weather, and playing different golf courses and everything is flowing.”

While this week is the season’s first major, she isn’t altering much in her preparation.

“No, not going to try and put more pressure on myself,” she explained. “I’m enjoying the run I’ve been on and the people I’m surrounded with — they’ve kept me grounded. I’ve been living in my own little bubble… It’s a major championship, so there’s a little bit more added pressure, but I’ve done a good job staying in my own little bubble and grooving with it.”

Korda is making history, joining Lorena Ochoa (2008) and Annika Sorenstam (2004, 2005) as the only players to have ever won four straight.

Runs like this don’t happen often, but it appears Korda is taking it week by week.

Cornette and Korda examined how she is now the face of women’s golf. The 12-time LPGA winner has the opportunity to grow golf with the world and young girls. She wants to be her authentic self.

“It’s all about the stage that we have,” she explained. “The position I’m in — I’m true to myself and love the game. I hope that inspires the next generation. It’s not about the sponsorships. It’s not about the money. It’s about competing day in and day out, enjoying myself out here and loving it.”

Korda looks to win her fifth event of the season and her second career major championship. She tees off with Minjee Lee and Lilia Vu at 2:10 p.m. ET. Fans can catch their round on ESPN+ as she is one of their featured groups.
