Despite entering the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday as potential trade candidates, the Philadelphia Eagles stood pat and took the first cornerback off the board at No. 22 overall with the selection of Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell.
But despite all the understandable hype surrounding Philly’s first-round pick, Eagles GM Howie Roseman admitted Thursday that his mind is racing as the team prepares to shift its focus to what will be a busy next two days.
Eagles GM Reveals Why He’s ‘A Little Distracted’ in NFL Draft
“I think you go through this draft and my mind isn’t really on what we just did, it’s on what we’re doing next, so I’m a little distracted, so it’s hard to talk about in a vacuum one thing,” said Roseman in his media session around midnight after taking Mitchell.
“We got a lot of work to do (Friday) and Saturday. So we are going to try to execute the best we can, and it’s a quick turnaround. For us to have a successful weekend we have a lot of work to do.”
A successful Eagles draft haul was never going to determined by their first-round pick unless they completely reached on a player. Considering how the season ended this past year, Roseman knows that one rookie cornerback won’t suddenly put Philly back in the Super Bowl, though it certainly helps address one of the team’s most-glaring weaknesses in the secondary.
The Eagles still have questions to answer and needs to fill on Day 2. Barring a trade, Philadelphia is currently slated to pick at Nos. 50 and 53 in the second round on Friday, The Eagles don’t have a third-round pick at the moment.
