Savvy golf picks lands Kerry punters a nice windfall in Masters golf challenge

It was a Masters tournament to remember for many reasons with World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler claiming his second green jacket in three years with a dominant performance in tough conditions.

Playing such great golf, it was no surprise then that almost all of those that finished in the Top 10 of the recent ‘2024 US Masters Tipster Competition’, organised by the Listowel Emmets, had Scheffler amongst their four picks.

How it worked was simple, entrants were asked to pick four golfers that they thought would get the lowest score over the course of the four rounds with the lowest combined score being the winner.

Winners of the annual competition – which has been running for five years now were announced last week with husband and wife pairing of Leonard Cleary and Michelle Lynch taking home first prize of €300.

Whether it was luck or just very savvy picking, the duo finished in first place with a score of -15, largely down to Scheffler’s final score of -11 while Max Homa’s -4 helped them just pip the chasing pack.

In second place, with a score of -12 was Olive Pierse who earned herself a €100 prize thanks to her picks of Matt Fitzpatrick (+4) Tommy Fleetwood (-4), Scottie Scheffler (-11) and Xander Schauffle (-1).

Finally, claiming joint third place were Orla Keane and John Gilhooly (both -11), bagging themselves €50 each in the process.

All funds raised from the event – which is sponsored by Pierse & Fitzgibbon Solicitors – will go towards the upkeep of the club as well the development of a new indoor training facility that the club is building and which they hope to have ready to open in the next few months.
