There will be one more wet day of showers and colder weather before things take a sharp turn moving into the weekend.
Temperatures are set to shoot to as high as 18C this weekend as rain moves away giving way to clear skies and sunshine, but not before the country is hit with one more bout of rain and showers.
While there will still be a lot of dry and mild weather in store over this week, patches of light rain or drizzle will continue to fall at times over Wednesday, Thursday and partially on Friday, Met Éireann has said.
Sharing weather charts to his popular weather updates page, Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather confirmed showers would fall before a weekend U-turn. He wrote: “Showers tomorrow but not many after that and weekend continues to look good”.
From the wet and rainy midweek right up to the bright, sunny and dry weekend – here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the coming days:
Wednesday
Mainly dry to start with bright spells. Cloud will increase from the northwest this morning with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle soon following.
Patchy rain and drizzle will spread southwards through the morning and afternoon. Some sunny intervals will develop between spells of light rain later in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 8C to 12C, coolest in the northeast with light to moderate west to northwest breezes.
Generally dry and cloudy, although a few patches of light rain or drizzle will linger. Lowest temperatures of -1C to 6C, coldest in the north where a touch of grass frost is possible, with winds easing light and variable.
Thursday
A cloudy and generally dry day tomorrow away from Ulster where patches of light rain will linger through the day. Outbreaks of light and patchy rain and drizzle will develop in the northwest spreading southeastwards in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 9C to 13C or 14C in a light to moderate west to northwest wind, increasing fresh at times.
Staying largely cloudy on Thursday night with further patches of light rain or drizzle feeding in from the north. Lowest temperatures of 6C to 9C in a light to moderate west to northwest wind.
The rain is set to clear giving way to sunny spells this weekend
