The Ohio State Buckeyes are putting together a roster ahead of the 2024 college football season we could look back upon as one of the most talented we’ve ever seen. They’re highly motivated after three straight losses to their fiercest rivals, the Michigan Wolverines. Not only have the Wolverines ended the Buckeyes’ chokehold on the series they dominated the past 20 years, but they’ve snatched it back while squandering some of the Buckeyes’ more promising teams.
Following the 2023 season, coming off a national championship victory, Michigan hired Ohio State’s former running back coach Tony Alford and immediately saw an improvement in the caliber of recruits they’re attracting to campus. They’re once again taking advantage of Ohio as they appear to close in on the state’s top running back in the 2025 class.
Marquise Davis told On3, “Michigan went well. A highlight for me was again the people and the efficiency of the practice. The way they premiere their running backs, they are a priority. Seen everything I needed to,” when speaking about his visit.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong reports Davis’ relationship with Alford as a reason for the Wolverines’ ‘positive momentum’ toward landing the four-star running back. Davis ranks as the No. 12 running back, No. 8 player in Ohio, and No. 189 overall player in the 2025 college football recruiting class according to On3’s Industry Rankings.
