There’s no question that the 2024 NFL draft is loaded with potential franchise quarterbacks.
USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., Oregon’s Bo Nix and Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy are all star quarterbacks from the college level that NFL analysts believe could make an impact at the next level.
Given the perceived strength of this year’s quarterback class, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network thinks multiple teams could trade up to try to snag one of the best available signal callers.
“I believe we’ll see 4-5 teams look into moving up for a QB over the next few months. Teams aren’t excited about next year’s QB class,” Jeremiah posted on social media.
The Chicago Bears own the No. 1 pick, so they can only trade down, but there are plenty of teams that will be looking to make a significant move to draft their future under center.
The Washington Commanders could trade up from No. 2 to ensure they get their guy, and the New England Patriots could do the same from No. 3. Elsewhere in the draft, the Minnesota Vikings (No. 11 pick) might look to select Kirk Cousins’s successor even if the 35-year-old returns in free agency this offseason. The Atlanta Falcons (No. 8 pick), Denver Broncos (No. 12), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 13) and Seattle Seahawks (No. 16) are four more teams that could be looking to trade up for a quarterback.
Time will tell if Jeremiah’s prediction comes true, but expect teams to be active if they believe their franchise quarterback won’t be available by the time they’re slated to pick.
The 2024 NFL draft begins on Thursday, April 25 in Detroit.
