‘Destoyer’ Shivam Dube can change games in very short time: Mike Hesson

CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube was picked up in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Dube, who has been in sensational form this season was preferred ahead of Rinku Singh – India’s star finisher over the last 8-10 months. Speaking on Jio Cinema, former cricketers Mike Hesson and Shane Watson lauded Dube for his ability to attack from the go.

Dube has been sensational for the better part of the IPL and has single-handedly helped CSK win some of the matches. Dube was a known and revered hitter of spin and was used in the same role last season at CSK. But this time around, Dube has bettered his ability to bat against fast bowling and has been able to take down short balls in the Indian Premier League 2024. Both Hesson and Watson have argued that Dube merited a place in the Indian T20 World Cup squad for his tremendous abilities.

“Shivam Dube has forced the hand of Indian selectors with the amount of runs scored for CSK. Dube changes the game in such a short period of time. Teams have been afraid of bowling spin to him, but he has shown that he can hit pace as well. Sides have gone short at him, that has not been effective, they have gone wide at him, that has not been effective as well,” Mike Hesson said.

Watson called Dube special and said that his biggest asset was that he is fearless.

“Shivam Dube has been incredibly special. The thing that stands out for me the most is his fearless mindset in every single game. Not many people allow themselves that freedom. He hardly ever misses out on getting going from the first ball. It’s an incredible skill and that is why he has been elevated to the Indian squad,” Watson said while speaking on the same panel.
