Death toll from Brazil downpours climbs to 83

SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Heavy rains battering Brazil’s southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul have killed at least 83 people, authorities said on Monday, up from 78 reported a day earlier.

Rio Grande do Sul’s civil defense authority said 111 people were still missing, while nearly 122,000 people have been displaced.
