Last month, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur made the decision to fire defensive coordinator Joe Barry, but it does not sound like he made a decision like that lightly.
During a press conference this week, Matt LaFleur made it pretty clear just how difficult it was to make the move but acknowledged that it’s the role of the head coach to make those tough decisions sometimes.
“There’s a lot of thought and deliberation that goes into that,” LaFleur said according to Pro Football Talk. “You guys know how I feel about Joe Barry. I’m so thankful for our time together. I’ve got so much respect for him as a man and as a coach, and what he was able to do for us. Those are tough decisions, but I think as a head football coach, sometimes you’ve got to make some tough decisions in terms of what you think you need to do moving forward to put your team in the best possible position.”
After parting ways with Barry, the Green Bay Packers hired former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley as the team’s new defensive coordinator. It’s clear that LaFleur thinks that this was a necessary move for the team.
