Damien Duff with the Shelbourne fan
A Shelbourne fan was brought on to the pitch by Damien Duff to greet his players after their 1-0 win over St Patrick’s on Friday.
John Martin’s first half strike ensured all three points for the home side as Shels earned their first victory in six games.
The win sees the Reds remain three points clear at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division on a night where Derry City moved second with a 2-0 win away to Waterford, while Shamrock Rovers drew 1-1 at home to Galway United.
There were joyous scenes after the full-time whistle at Tolka Park as Duff celebrated with the fans and his players, with one supporter being brought on to the pitch by the Shels boss.
A video posted on the club’s social media channels shows the former Republic of Ireland winger pulling fan Ciaran Harmon from the Riverside part of the ground and putting his arm around him as they walked towards the Shels players in the centre of the pitch.
The players, Duff and the supporter then all huddled as the fan said a couple of words to the squad.
Shels travel to bottom side Dundalk next as they look to continue their title charge.
