Juventus are required to pay Cristiano Ronaldo £8.3million (€9.8m) plus interest in wages owed as a judgement arrived over their dispute.
The Portugal star, who now plies his trade for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, saw monthly payments deferred while representing his former team during the Covid-19 pandemic. Juventus came to an agreement with their players to defer four months of their salaries in March 2020 and April 2021.
The club’s financial difficulties saw agreements made with individual stars too, with it suggested that Ronaldo wanted a payment of £17.2m ($21.3m) in deferred wages. Ex-Juve ace and Roma forward Paulo Dybala reached an agreement with the Old Lady in 2023 and received £2.6m ($3.2m) in owed wages.
Judges Gianroberto Villa, Roberto Sacchi and Leandro Cantamess ruled somewhat in favour of Ronaldo, with Juventus reportedly having not set aside finances to cover the risk.
Ronaldo played for Juventus between 2018 and 2021 after the Italian side agreed a £99.2m transfer with Real Madrid for his services. The Ballon d’Or winner won two Serie A titles and bagged 101 goals in 134 appearances for Juve.
Within the case, Juventus claimed that Ronaldo, when departing for Manchester United in August 2021, agreed that the club had no more financial obligations towards him. The Serie A side argued this superseded any previous agreement in relation to an unpaid salary.
Juve had planned for three months of deferred waged to be repaid to players over the coming seasons. Ronaldo’s lawyers believed this remained to be the case and the officials ruled that the veteran forward was indeed owed some financial compensation.

As per Tuttosport, Juve were judged to have a “pre-contractual liability” and were guilty of “contributory negligence” towards Ronaldo. The figure they have been ordered to pay is the sum plus interest.
