A total of 2,064 new houses were completed in County Cork last year, which represents a 200% increase on the number of new houses that were completed in 2016.
Fine Gael TD for Cork North West Michael Creed welcomed the figures released for new house completions in 2023. “It is heartening to see that the number of houses completed in County Cork last year was three times the number completed in 2016,” he said.
“Last year’s total is an increase of almost 10% on the 2022 figure,” Deputy Creed said. “The total number of house completions in County Cork in 2023 was 2,064 new homes, which represents more than a 200% increase on the 671 houses completed here in 2016. It’s clear that the Government is prioritising housing in an unprecedented way and giving more and more people the opportunity to own their own homes.
“32,695 new homes were built around Ireland last year, representing an increase of 10% from 2022. In October, November and December of last year, over 10,000 new homes were completed, which was an increase of 13% on 2022,” he added.
The experienced politician pointed out that the increase in County Cork reflected the national trend. “This is the highest level of home building in 15 years. Under Fine Gael, home building has increased from just 5,000 per year to almost 33,000 more than a massive sixfold increase. 500 first time buyers are drawing down their mortgage each week. This too is the highest level of first time buyer activity in 15 years since the economic crash.”
