NFL Combine News: Eagles GM Howie Roseman Addresses Haason Reddick Contract Situation

nfl combine news: eagles gm howie roseman addresses haason reddick contract situation

Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Haason Reddick (7) sacks Washington Commanders QB Sam Howell (14).

Haason Reddick has been one of the best edge rushers in the NFL over the last two seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles. His 27.5 sacks over that span are the third-most while reaching an All-Pro and Pro Bowl nod with his hometown organization.

Simply stated, Reddick has been the best defensive player the Eagles have employed in the last two seasons. Now that the Temple product is entering the final year of a three-year contract with Philadelphia, the organization has allowed his representation to begin looking for a trade partner and test the potential market in the coming weeks.

But just because Philadelphia has allowed him to look for a trade doesn’t mean Reddick is leaving anytime soon.

Eagles, Howie Roseman Open Door for Haason Reddick Return

Longtime Eagles general manager Howie Roseman made it clear during his availability at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine that the team will do everything they can to keep Reddick as a part of the team.

“Haason is an unbelievable player for the Philadelphia Eagles,” Roseman stated. “Local kid, a great success story…love having (him).”

Head coach Nick Sirianni also backed Roseman’s comments by stating, “We’ll see how that plays out, but hopefully he’s an Eagle.”

Reddick, 29, is looking to be paid as one of the top pass rushers in football over the next few seasons. San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is making $34 million annually, the highest amongst NFL edge rushers.

While the Eagles are willing to negotiate a new deal with their top defensive player, keeping trade options open also gives the team some flexibility in the entire process.

“Anything you’re trying to do, you are trying to blend what you are doing this year and what you are going to look like in the future,” Roseman explained. “That’s the hardest job. We have tremendous respect for the player and the person.”

Philadelphia has gone through this kind of negotiation before in the last couple of years. The Eagles released All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox two years ago to allow him to test the open market, before re-signing him a few weeks later.

Last season, the Eagles did the same thing with cornerback Darius Slay before bringing him back just a couple of days later.

Philadelphia could still trade Reddick, thanks to the selection of Georgia standout Nolan Smith last season. But the deal would need to be right for the organization to make.

While it’s still early in the offseason, it appears Philadelphia will look to bring Reddick back at some point this offseason, despite Smith behind him.
