Who is Katja Mia, the new Six O'Clock Show presenter?

Katja Mia has bagged a coveted role on Irish telly as one of the new hosts of The Six O’Clock Show.

The presenter has a strong track record with Irish viewers as she has been a hit on Ireland AM since she joined the show a year ago.

As she prepares to kick off presenting with Brian Dowling following Karen Koster and Greg O’Shea’s departure, here is everything we know about her.

Who is Katja Mia?

Katya is an African-Irish presenter and model.

She is 27 and she was raised in Blanchardstown in West Dublin.

She had a very different career path before presenting

Katja studied international finance, economics and German in Maynooth.

She has previously worked in retail and as a depositary analyst in a bank.

She is a model and content creator

Katja is a natural on screen. As a child, she attended stage school and she thinks her confidence in front of the camera came from there.

She has worked with 1st Options model agency and she showcases her love for style and beauty on her social media and YouTube channels.

She quit her job in the financial sector during the pandemic to pursue her dreams of presenting.

Getting her big break in media

It was always Katja’s dream to be ‘on the big screen’ and she got her big break after she worked with Love Island presenter Maya Jama on her skincare collection.

Katja got the gig by entering a competition for ambassadors and presenters for Maya’s brand of skincare masks, MIJ.

‘From there, the bug just grew,’ she said previously. ‘Then the universe was looking out for me.’

Landing Ireland AM

Katja began her career on Ireland AM as an entertainment reporter.

She then slipped into Muireann O’Connell’s shoes when she was on annual leave from her presenting duties in October 2022.

Speaking about her Ireland AM role with VIP Magazine, she said: ‘Muireann and Tommy just made me feel so comfortable. I’m really looking forward to working with them.’

In an interview with HER.ie, she added: ‘I’m curved and black and Irish, there’s no one really doing what I do right now. We don’t have a lot of coloured influencers, in general, add being a size 14-16 and you have something different.’

She is dating an influencer

Katja has been dating Meath influencer Daragh Curran since 2017.

Daragh, who goes by the moniker the Guinness Guru online, rates pints of the black stuff at home and abroad.

She addressed engagement rumours after the couple jetted off to the Dominican Republic together this summer.

The brunette beauty was thrilled to announce that she had been named as a presenter on The Six O’Clock Show with Brian Dowling.

The pair have presented on Ireland AM together in the past so no doubt they will have a ball sharing the screen together.

Announcing the news on social media, she couldn’t hide her excitement and she showered praise on her Ireland AM colleagues.

‘It’s been 1 year since I started my journey on @irelandamvmtv with the most fantastic weekend team that I’ll miss so much.

‘They really made my transition into the world of telly so seamless and getting to work alongside my big sis @elainecrowleytv and the absolute gent that is @martinkingpresenter is an experience I’ll never forget.

‘They’ve taught me so much without even knowing,’ she concluded.
