Rishi Sunak warned Russian President Vladimir Putin “will not stop at the Polish border” if he succeeds in Ukraine as he announced a new military package worth £500million.
The Prime Minister will travel to Poland and Germany on Tuesday in a visit focused on shoring up security and trade ties with the European nations.
He will unveil a new package of support for Ukraine, described by the government as being of “record” magnitude, as he warned Poland’s borders must be protected from the Russian invasion moving further into Europe.
The £500m in additional funding will take the UK military aid for Ukraine to £3 billion in a year.
The money be used to fund ammunition, air defence, drones and engineering support, the Government said.
It comes alongside the “largest ever” delivery of military equipment, including armoured vehicles, boats, air defence missiles and ammunition.
The UK will be sending 60 boats, including offshore raiding craft, rigid raiding craft and dive boats, more than 1,600 strike and air defence missiles and more than 400 vehicles, as well as nearly four million rounds of small arms munitions.
Mr Sunak said: “Defending Ukraine against Russia’s brutal ambitions is vital for our security and for all of Europe. If Putin is allowed to succeed in this war of aggression, he will not stop at the Polish border.”
He added: “I am in Warsaw today to deepen ties with our Polish partners and commit critical new military support for Ukraine’s defence.
“Ukraine’s armed forces continue to fight bravely, but they need our support – and they need it now. Today’s package will help ensure Ukraine has what they need to take the fight to Russia.

“The United Kingdom will always play its part at the forefront of European security, defending our national interest and standing by our Nato allies.”
The No10 spokesman said Ukraine “faces a difficult summer as Russia continues to ramp up this barbaric assault”.
He said the package announced today was “a direct response to specific asks Ukrainian government and armed forces”.
And the funding announcement comes hot on the heels of the US House of Representatives approving a $61bn aid package to Ukraine.
On his trip, Mr Sunak will meet Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk before the two hold talks with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg about European security and support to Ukraine.
In a show of support, the PM will offer to deploy an RAF Typhoon Squadron to carry out Nato Air Policing over Poland next year.
The Prime Minister will then travel to Germany to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin.
Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said the “record package of military aid” will give Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenskyy “more of the kit they need to kick Putin out and restore peace and stability in Europe”.
