The Cleveland Browns are back in Berea. At least some of them as the team’s offseason workout program kicks off.
While players reported to Berea, Browns free agency continued with one player returning and another being released. First, DE Sam Kamara, an exclusive rights free agent, signed his contract to return to Cleveland for his third season with the club. Kamara had seven tackles last season including one for a loss in two games.
The 6’, 270 pound Kamara has played in 11 games in his three-year career including eight with the Chicago Bears as a rookie.
The Browns also released OL Drew Forbes with a failed physical designation. A sixth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Forbes was dubbed “Prospect X” by Sports Illustrated as a small school player with upside.
Forbes has played in just 12 games, including one with the Detroit Lions in 2022, but none in 2020, 2021 or 2023.
The start of offseason programs is limited. Strictly voluntary, no matter how much some fans and media expect mandatory participation, each team has a nine-week offseason program broken up into three phases:
- Meetings, rehab and strength and conditioning
- On-field workouts with individual and group drills at a walkthrough pace with no live contact or offense vs defense drills
- 10 days of organized practices (officially OTAs) with no contact but offense versus defense drills are permitted
The team’s social media celebrated the return of players to Berea:
