Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on Monday conducted a review of the situation, following the hoax emails received by over 200 schools in the national capital last week.
He stressed the importance of improving security measures, installing CCTV cameras, and maintaining regular monitoring of emails in schools. Bhalla also urged close coordination between the Delhi Police and schools to establish an effective response mechanism, preventing misinformation from causing unnecessary panic.
“Home Secretary reviews the situation in wake of hoax emails received by some schools in Delhi last week. He stressed the need to prepare detailed protocol and SOPs to handle any such situation in future,” a home ministry spokesperson said. “Home Secretary also emphasized the need to enhance security, CCTV cameras and regular monitoring of emails in the schools,” the spokesperson said.
The gathering included the Delhi Chief Secretary and the Delhi Police Commissioner. On May 1, over 200 schools in Delhi-NCR received identical threatening emails alleging the placement of explosives on their premises, leading to extensive evacuations and searches while anxious parents hurried to retrieve their children. Authorities conducted searches but found “nothing objectionable,” ultimately classifying it as a hoax.
On Monday, on the eve of Lok Sabha elections in Ahmedabad, 16 schools received threatening emails regarding bomb blasts. However, a police statement dismissed this as a hoax as no suspicious items were discovered during searches.
