Blackpool Showtown ticket prices and who will be able to get into new museum for free

The museum will showcase Blackpool’s rich entertainment industry

Tickets are now on sale for Blackpool’s long-awaited new Showtown museum – but not all visitors will need to pay to get in. The “all-singing, all-dancing museum” is billed as “a true celebration of Blackpool”.

The £13m attraction will be housed on the first floor of the Sands Hotel and is part-funded by Blackpool Council. Visitors will be able to experience the seaside, circus, magic, shows, dance and the world-famous illuminations over six interactive exhibitions.

Admission will cost £15 for adults and £11.50 for children. However entry is free for Blackpool residents. Showtown will also offer free trips for schools.

Blackpool Council said: “Tickets are now on sale for Showtown Blackpool, and the good news is that entry is free for Blackpool residents. If you pay council tax to Blackpool Council, then you and your family can access the museum’s exhibitions, events and facilities for free.

“Showtown will also offer free trips for Blackpool schools, as part of its wider education and engagement programmes. Opening in March 2024, Showtown will celebrate the seaside, circus, magic, dance shows and Blackpool’s world-famous Illuminations, as well as some of the people who have helped make the town famous.”

Discounted tickets are available for students, with free entry for seniors and carers. For those who do need to buy a ticket, the council says they will be valid for a whole year and visitors can return as many times as they like.

The museum was granted planning permission back in 2018, but was delayed due to the Covid pandemic and hold-ups in the construction of the Sands Hotel on Central Promenade. It was hoped it could finally open in June 2021 but the date was pushed back to April this year and then postponed again.
