New traffic safety initiatives to be announced for Ohio Turnpike: Watch live at 10 a.m.
Officials with the Ohio Turnpike and Ohio State Highway Patrol are set to reveal traffic safety initiatives planned for this year “aimed at educating drivers on the importance of following traffic laws to eliminate dangerous driving behaviors” and reduce crashes.
While few details about the plan were announced prior to the press conference, authorities “are taking steps to improve roadway safety along the 241-mile Ohio Turnpike, which traverses through 13 counties across northern Ohio.” This includes work zone awareness.
All will be announced during a 10 a.m. press conference at the Cleveland Auto Show, which we plan to stream live inside this story. You can also watch live coverage on our YouTube channel (subscribe here).
Those expected at the press conference include:
- Ohio State Highway Patrol Sergeant Ryan E. Purpura
- Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Chief Engineer Chris Matta
We will update this story with full details of the safety plan.
This announcement comes after Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine revealed plans last week to install “state-of-the-art technology” at 13 sites to help reduce serious crashes on various roadways.
“The advanced cameras monitoring live traffic that feed into ODOT’s Traffic Management Center will detect in real time when traffic is slowing down and backing up,” when announcing details of that plan back on Feb. 15. “The technology will then immediately turn on a digital message warning drivers approximately two miles back of the upcoming slow down.”
You can see full details of that plan with a list of the 13 locations HERE.
