BI implements revised dress code for employees amid extreme heat

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has allowed its employees to wear smart casual uniforms as a relief from the scorching heat.
In a statement on Wednesday, the bureau said that the revised dress code is effective from May 7 to 31.
However, the BI said that the latest memorandum does not cover employees under the civil security unit and those assigned to ports.
Other agencies, such as the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection, were already given a green light earlier by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, allowing their employees to wear light uniforms while on duty.
The Department of Education also issued a memorandum allowing public school teachers to wear alternate uniforms.

According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, 18 areas nationwide were expected to experience dangerous levels of heat index, or between 42°C and 45°C.
Heat index refers to the measure of the temperature that the body feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity and the air temperature.
PAGASA warned that dangerous levels of heat index may likely lead to heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Heat stroke is also possible with continued exposure to heat.
The Department of Health earlier reported 77 cases of heat-related illnesses from January 1 to April 29. Of this number, 87%, or 67 of these cases, were aged 12 to 21. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
