Team Avatar Returns in Aang: The Last Aribender

While Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender left many divided, one thing was for sure: audiences wanted to go back on adventures in the world of ATLA. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Avatar: The Last Airbender has become a classic of all-ages storytelling. Its sequel series, Legend of Korra, gave fans a look at older versions of characters, but there has always been a gap of time left to be explored. Maybe we’ll get some answers in Aang: The Last Airbender (the working title for the new ATLA animated film). And with a voice cast that includes Dave Bautista and Eric Nam as the titular lead, we’re intrigued.

Here’s what we know about the Avatar animated film so far.

Original Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino will produce the film alongside Eric Coleman, an animation veteran whose first credit was from 1998’s Nickelodeon series The Wild Thornberrys.

The animated film will be produced under the Avatar Studios banner. Avatar Studios was created in 2021 as part of Nickelodeon‘s commitment to expanding the beloved franchise in animation—beyond the two existing series. As for the director? Well that falls to director Lauren Montgomery who is set to direct the 2025 film.

But What About the Plot?

Aang: The Last Airbender will center on an older team Avatar, which includes Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Zuko. The Avatar animated movie will serve as the first of a trilogy that marks a new chapter for the animated franchise with its theatrical releases.

Aang: The Last Airbender Cast:

At Momo Con, the voice actor behind Toph, Michaela Jill Murphy, also known as Jessie Flower, confirmed that she and her co-stars would not be reprising their roles as the team. During CinemaCon in Las Vegas, it was confirmed that Dave Bautista as the unnamed villain and Eric Nam as Aang.

When Does the Avatar movie release?

Per the original series’ Instagram, Aang: The Last Airbender is scheduled to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
