Snow Squalls encroach on Midstate as polar air rushes into region

TODAY: Snow Squalls Midday, Windy at Times Hi 36. Winds W 10-20 mph.

TONIGHT: Breezy, Cold. Lo 19. Winds W 5-10 mph.

MONDAY: Partly Cloudy, Cold. Hi 31. Lo 24.

Snow squalls take the headline as the top weather event, and rightly so, as colder air surges into the region. Timing for these squalls will be late morning into early afternoon and during that time expect drastically reduced visibility as quick heavy bursts of snowfall combine with strong winds upwards of 50 mph. Road conditions are likely to be poor as up to 1/2″ of snow will slick up the driving surface. If you’re thinking about travelling today I would hold off until the afternoon, when conditions will be much better. Highs hit the mid to upper 30s this afternoon, while lows drop into the upper teens overnight. Conditions remain breezy to windy, with steady winds of 10-20 mph throughout the day.

MLK day should thankfully be a quiet one, although the morning of Tuesday will brings us a round of light snow. Accumulations at this point should be minimal although we will continue to keep you updated. The Arrival of polar air means that lows remain in the teens early on while highs stick around the freezing mark, dipping into the upper 20s at times.
