Baldurs Gate 3: Should You Save Nere, Kill Him, Or Let Him Die?

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game that will expose players to many challenges, some of which can be resolved in various manners, affecting the player’s game in different ways, depending on what paths the player takes.

Ambitious Stardew Valley Mod Will Marry the Game With Baldur’s Gate 3

An incredibly ambitious Stardew Valley mod seeks to introduce a bunch of Baldur’s Gate 3-inspired content to the hit farming sim.

The player will eventually stumble on a man stuck under a pile of rubble who needs help. Depending on what the player does, different scenarios can occur.

Who is Nere and Where To Find Him

Nere is a Drow who, just like the player, is a true soul. He also has a parasite stuck in his head. However, like most true souls, he’s in the service of the Absolute.

To find Nere, the player must first access the Underdark. The Underdark can be accessed from the Goblin camp, in the room priestess Gut takes the player to.

From there onward, the player must first locate the Decrepit Village. It will be next to the beach and an ancient Sigil circle. There, the player will meet Gekh Coal, a Duergar.

He possesses a boat that can take the player to Grymforge, where they will find Nere. To get on that boat, the player has two options – get the Sergeant’s stolen boots from Thulla or kill Gekh Coal and his men. Taking the Sergeant’s boots will make it easier to go to Grymforge, but both options are decent.

Once sailing, the player will soon be at Grymforge, where Nere is in very deep trouble.

Neres Situation

Once the player goes deeper into the Grymforge, they’ll meet Sergeant Thrinn. She’ll explain to the player that Nere is stuck under the rubble and in dire need of help.

The player is in a race against time to save Nere, as if they long rest too often, Nere will die.

Letting Nere Die Under the Rubble

The easiest option here when it comes to Nere is to just let him perish under the rubble. This will happen on its own after the player long rests for a few times. It requires no work and the Grymforge will be deserted afterwards.

Nere will try to contact the player telepathically through their parasite connections and tell them that he’s going to die if help doesn’t arrive.

Nevertheless, if the player ignores this, Nere’s corpse will be left in front of the area where he was once buried under the rubble. His body will be accessible to loot, and the player can even take his head with no problem.

If the player needs Nere’s head and doesn’t want to go through a fight, this is the easiest solution. However, this will not save the deep gnomes.

Blowing Up The Rubble

If the player wants to save Nere or kill him themselves, the first step is to blow up the rubble that has him stuck. To do this, they must find the Elder Brithvar. He will guide the player on what to do. First, destroy the eye to blind the Absolute and then get runepowder.

To destroy the eye, the player must go to a deserted area in the Grymforge and attack it. It shouldn’t be hard to do.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 13 Things You Should Never Sell

Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 has a ton of items and loot, which can get overwhelming. Here’s what players should never sell off at a vendor.

Once that is done, the player must find a deep gnome named Philomeen. To find her, the player should backtrack to the area with the boats and look for two Duergar who are throwing corpses in the water. The player should make them leave. After that, the player needs to access the locked door and find a button. Going inside, the player will face some challenges but eventually, they’ll reach an intricate door. They should go from behind that area where they’ll finally find Philomeen.

The player should get her to hand over at least one vial of runepowder as it’s all that’s needed to free Nere. With that in hand, the player needs to make their way back to Nere, where they’ll speak to Sergeant Thrinn and tell her they have explosives. Once the explosive is placed, all that’s left is to light it up. With the rubble blown, Nere is finally free to go.

Siding With Nere and Letting Him Live

Nere will spare no moment to be despicable from the moment he is freed from the rubble, immediately killing one of the slaves. Depending on what the player says, he can go on to kill the rest of the slaves or stop.

Eventually, the player will have to choose to side with Elder Brithvar or Nere. To let Nere live, the player will have to side with him. This will start a fight against Elder Brithvar and his men, but the player will have the support of Nere and other NPCs.

This fight will be considerably easier than fighting against Nere so it should be no issue for the player to win this.

Once victory is taken, Nere will ask the player to deliver a message to the general who resides at Moonrise Tower and will explain to the player how to get there despite the curses. He has a moonlantern, which is broken, but he gives the player a lyre to use to get help from allies.

Siding with Elder Brithvar and Killing Nere

If the player decides to side with Elder Brithvar instead of Nere, then the fight against Nere will start. Here, the player will be helped by Elder Brithvar and his men in this fight. However, Nere and his allies are pretty impressive and will be a challenge for many players to defeat. They are able to cast mind mastery, which can be an annoyance during a fight.

When the player wins this battle, Elder Brithvar will give the player their part of the loot, which, if the player made sure to negotiate for half, will be 500 coins.

Besides that, they will be able to loot Nere’s body and get his head (however, NPCs will consider the player stealing, so players should wait until the Grymforge is empty). On him, the player will find the following:

– Dagger +1

– Sword of Screams

– Simple Nighrobe

– Disintegrated Night Walker

– Spider Lyre

– Broken Moonlantern

– Mind Flayer Specimen Parasite

The player will also be able to cut his head off, to take back to the Myconid.
