AUKUS submarines will require nuclear industry in Australia

Nationals MP Keith Pitt says there has to be a nuclear industry in place for AUKUS nuclear submarines.

When asked about nuclear energy in Australia, Mr Pitt said we are “doing it anyway” with the nuclear submarines.

“You must have a nuclear industry if you are going to firstly build subs, operate subs, maintain subs, and decommission them at the end of their operational life when they have a nuclear reactor onboard.

“And they have radioactive waste to deal with.

“So we’re doing all of those steps.”
