First Look: Marks and Spencer drops good value hero pieces in SS24 collection

With the promise of summer just around the corner, it’s high time for a wardrobe refresh and Marks &Spencer has released its new SS24 collection for us to browse.

The looks across the Per Una, The Edit and Autograph lines feature chic tailoring and quality fabrics like cotton, linen, and denim, to take us from after-work drinks to an escape to the Costa del Sol.

From mob wife-inspired summer dresses to funky sequins and back again to quiet luxury with the influencer-approved linen waistcoat look, there are any number of stylish hero pieces to be snapped up.

In the new The Edit line, the sequined dress in baby pink (€67), complemented by metallic accessories, sets the tone and would be perfect item for a fun-filled calendar of socialising and late nights.

Primary colours also feature in the collection, with the yellow midi dress featuring modern draping (€67) standing out as a key item that screams summer style.

Meanwhile, one that is sure to be a favourite in the collection is the fluid leopard dress (€60) that shows M&S quietly embracing the ‘mob wife’ trend.

M&S has delivered on modern tailoring throughout the collection while maintaining a feminine aesthetic, with easy-to-style pieces featuring structured shoulders and pleated trouser styles.

Linen is showcased across a number of customer favourites, including a sweeping linen trench coat, as well as denim-on-denim which is showcased in matching styles.

The matching denim pieces can either be worn together or as separates, creating the perfect foundation of new season staples, to take you through the spring and into summer or you can commit fully to the Canadian tuxedo trend and layer the denim waistcoat, with overshirt, jeans and pointed denim flats,

In the Autograph line, the colour palette encompasses the warm summer hues of the Mediterranean, with olive green, sea blue and pops of red.

Subtle elegance is introduced through styles such as the ruched detail midi dress (€160) and effortless draping, that flatters the silhouette.

Tailoring in the spring-summer Autograph line introduces a ‘borrowed from your boyfriend’ fit and feel, with structured shoulders on blazers and waistcoats, layered with oversized shirts and matching short sets (€67 and €60) in neat pinstripe prints.

Marks has tailored pieces in versatile neutrals as well, creating refined summer layering options that could work just as well at the office summer party to walking the promenade in the south of France.

This season’s Per Una line champions dreamy romance and femininity with delicate embellishments, soft prints and relaxed shapes across midi dresses, matching sets and oversized blouses.

Floaty cotton fabrics create an ethereal sensibility, seen in the broderie midi dress and the low-cut blouse. The blouse (€60) is styled with a cropped waistcoat (€54) and matching shorts (€47.50) that feature intricate embroidery details in contrasting blue.

Elsewhere, prints have a geometric focus with relaxed, imperfect detailing, cascaded through strappy midi dresses with dye techniques that create texture, in sun-kissed orange and turquoise blue.

Occasion also has a place with Per Una, with some geometric prints underpinned by luxe shimmer threads, which glitter in the summer sun.
