Russian Minister's Menace: Nations Preparing for War Should Have 'Instinct for Self-Preservation'

NATO members have been taking Russia’s aggression seriously, by issuing warnings of potential war and conducting its largest military drill since the Cold War.

Knewz.com has learned that Russia’s foreign minister Sergey Lavrov replied to countries “who warn about the need to prepare for war with Russia” with what some are interpreting as a veiled threat.

Russia Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said he hopes that countries warning of war would have the instinct of

During a briefing at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on January 24, a press member referred to an article by Bloomberg advocating Europe’s preparation in the face of Russian aggression.

Lavrov responded, “I hope that this is not the case, that there are still smart people there who at least have not only a knowledge of history but also an instinct for self-preservation.”

“I heard that even President Biden said something similar, warning that if Ukraine loses, then Russia will immediately go to the Baltic states, Finland, and other NATO countries,” Lavrov said via RIA Novosti.

The Russian representative denied his country had such intentions. “We have no desire, no need, neither military, nor political, nor economic, to attack anyone anywhere,” Lavrov said according to Newsweek.

Lavrov used the public forum to blame Russia’s so-called “special military operation” in Ukraine on a 2014 “coup” instigated by the West in 2014 that saw Ukrainians protest against the country’s pro-Russian elements.

A power-sharing deal was struck by the country’s government but failed in February 2014 and led to the disappearance and arrest warrant of the country’s then-president Viktor Yanukovych, per BBC News.

In the wake of Yanukovych’s disappearance, the Ukrainian parliament elected a new government and this was followed by unmarked fatigued combatants storming Crimea. These combatants were later confirmed to the Russian military.

Crimea was then annexed into Russia via a union referendum that is not internationally recognized.

Parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were also pried from Ukrainian control by Russian-backed separatist forces.

Ukraine has been at war with the pro-Russian rebellious entities for the ensuing eight years despite the 2014/2015 Minsk peace agreements, per House of Commons Library.

According to Lavrov, the Germans, French, and the U.S. “begged” for this peace treaty but even after it was signed none of the concerned parties abided by its terms, except Putin, according to Lavrov, and it’s what led to the Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.

The Kremlin has since touted the ongoing operation – which has proved expensive in military assets and human life – as existential.

Lavrov emphasized the latter saying: “What I am saying is that the special military operation became inevitable after years of attempts to convince the West that it was highly dangerous to turn Ukraine into a direct threat to Russia right on its border.”

Russia’s parliament has since demonstrated the regime’s willingness to commit to its actions in Ukraine by abandoning the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at the behest of Putin.

The motion was followed up by a missile test, attended by Putin, and numerous nuclear threats by Kremlin propagandists.

As a result, in December 2023 Poland issued a warning that Russia could attack NATO nations within the next three years, which could trigger a third World War.

The following month, Knewz.com reported that Germany seemed to be preparing for a potential war as well. A leaked secret document from the German Ministry of Defense detailed the process it believes Russia will take in attacking NATO forces in 2025.

On January 18, NATO announced that 90,000 troops would be mobilized in its largest exercise since the Cold War in a show of strength against Putin.

NATO’s top commander Chris Cavoli made the announcement and said that the drill will show how U.S. troops could reinforce European allies, especially in the East, Knewz.com reported.
