There will be more to come from NCIS, as CBS has ensured that the series will return for Season 22 on the network. The renewal was announced on Tuesday with CBS revealing that NCIS and The Favourite have both secured season renewals.
“The Neighborhood and NCIS are the very best definition of a CBS comedy and drama,” a statement written by CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said of the renewals, per THR. “They embody authentic storytelling with heart, humor, and family dynamics. We are proud to bring them back next season.”

The circumstances surrounding Cote de Pablo’s NCIS departure were never fully explained, but she did get to reprise her role as Ziva in Season 17.
The news comes hot on the heels of CBS dishing out a three-season renewal for FBI, while also giving single-season renewals to that show’s spinoffs, FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted. Previously, CBS had given a renewal to the Australian NCIS spinoff, dubbed NCIS: Sydney. The network has also renewed the shows Fire Country, Ghosts, and Tracker. This comes as other shows are set to end this season, like Young Sheldon, S.W.A.T., and Bob Hearts Abishola.
NCIS: Hawai’i Is Still on the Bubble
A handful of CBS shows remain on the bubble, and while NCIS has been renewed, the fate of NCIS: Hawai’i remains unclear. The show, currently in the midst of its third season, joins other shows on the bubble including CSI: Vegas, The Equalizer, So Help Me Todd, and Elsbeth. It could be seen as a bad sign that Hawai’i was not announced to be renewed alongside its parent series, similar to what just happened with the FBI franchise, though NCIS: Sydney was notably renewed before NCIS, so it’s too early to be sure about the fate of Hawai’i.

In any case, many spinoffs will be further exploring the world of NCIS. A prequel series, titled NCIS: Origins, will go back in time, following a younger version of Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Austin Stowell will portray the younger Gibbs, though Harmon will be lending his voice to the older Gibbs by serving as the narrator. Harmon is also executive producing the series alongside son Sean Harmon, who previously played a younger Gibbs in flashback scenes in the original NCIS.
It has also been revealed that a new spinoff is in development at Paramount+. The spinoff will bring back Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo to reprise their respective roles as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David. The spinoff will reportedly be set in Europe, though an official title hasn’t yet been announced by the NCIS team.
